Employees in the music and entertainment industry are often exposed to high levels of noise at work that could result in lifelong hearing damage. The Government wants employers to take this health threat seriously so it has passed a new law, effective from 1st April 2008, to regulate noise levels in the workplace and protect these employees from noise-related hearing loss. There are nearly 600,000 people who work in the UK music and entertainment industry. According to a study by the RNID, as many as 68% of employers in the industry are unaware that they must comply with the new Control of Noise at Work regulations. According to the new regulations, employees must protect their ears when noise levels exceed 80Db. The hearing protection must limit average noise levels so that they never exceed 87dB for any individual employee.Source: www.hear-it.org
